Löning Signs Corporation Agreement with JAAR

He was attached to Omanoil ( Former British Petroleum Oman – BP Oman) in corporate finance and GDF Suez Oman (Engie) in structured finance. Akmal has been with KPMG advisory in Sri Lanka and in the Sultanate of Oman. Akmal is a +20 years experienced high-impact corporate professional with strong ability to identify initiatives and facilitate action driven plans to support corporate growth and objectives. He carries proven track record of evaluating business and investment opportunities, quickly understanding companies and their markets and making sound and profitable investment decisions. Expert in the identification and implementation of financial management strategies to capture cost improvement opportunities while positively impacting bottom-line profits. Equally strong advisory in new business development, growth and diversification.

Rushda Niyas is a commercial lawyer with ten years experience in corporate legal advisory, Foreign Investments, Due Diligence and conveyancing.

As part of the legal team for over 6 years at the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, she advised investors on all legal and regulatory aspects of investing, setting up and doing business in Sri Lanka. This included advising investors on; setting up and structuring special purpose vehicles for projects, regulatory/compliance requirements for doing business; exit strategies and general advise for day to day operations of BOI companies in varying industries such as services, Manufacturing, Renewable Energy, Infrastructure and Agro sectors. She was involved in negotiating large scale projects such as projects approved under the Strategic Development Projects Act and engaged extensively with investors and government stakeholders to ensure smooth and timely completion and closing. 

She has experience in drafting, vetting and clearing all types of commercial contracts and conveyancing instruments. Being part of cross functional teams in the BOI to implement identified projects, has given her a keen and overall understanding of business functioning under the BOI and other regulatory bodies. 

Prior to joining the BOI, Rushda was an associate at Julius & Creasy, Sri Lanka where she worked with the partner heading the Corporate law practice and advised local and foreign MNC’s and large corporations on legal and regulatory matters. She also was part of the legal teams which conducted buy side due diligence on high value acquisitions.

Consultant - Business Economics and Market Research

Dr. Janaka Fernando is a renowned academic attached to the Department of Business Economics, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. With working experience in Japan over three years and project experiences in the Philippines and Australia, Dr. Fernando joins as the Business Economics consultant of JAAR. 

He holds a PhD from the Nagoya University in Japan, MA in Economics from the University of Colombo, Master of International Development Studies from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Japan, and BSc (Hons.) in Business Administration (Business Economics) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Dr. Fernando also is a special trainee on quantitative research methods from Griffith University in Australia. He currently manages the postgraduate arm of the department of Business Economics being the coordinator of Master of Business Economics and Master of Science in Business Economics postgraduate programs.

In addition, he works as a consultant to the Asian Development Bank on impact evaluation of road development projects in Sri Lanka. 

He has published many articles in international & national refereed journals and proceedings in relation to industry growth, industrial clusters, microfinance, public debt, skilled migration, and on other business economics and development issues.
